CNC Milling
CNC Milling
Different from the process of CNC turning, milling holds the blank in place and using a high-speed rotating milling cutter to travel over the blank to cut out the desired shape and features. Conventional milling is more often used to mill simple shapes/features such as contours and slots. CNC milling machines can perform machining of complex shapes and features. CNC Milling and boring machining centers can perform 3-axis or multi-axis milling and bore for machining, molds, inspection tools, tire tools, thin-walled complex surfaces, artificial prostheses, blades, etc.
CNC milling is a common method of cold working metal, unlike CNC turning, in which the tool is driven by the spindle and rotates at high speed while the workpiece is relatively stationary.
CNC turning is used to process rotary parts, the parts are clamped on the machine spindle by three gripping chucks and rotated at high speed, then the turning tool is used to follow the bus line of the rotary body to cut out the product shape. The lathe can also be used for the processing of bore, thread, nibble, etc.
Features and application:
1. CNC milling machines curved contours on the workpiece, straight lines, circular arcs, threaded or spiral curves, especially non-circular curves given by mathematical expressions with list curves and other curved contours.
2. It can machine spatial curves or surfaces for which mathematical models have been given.
3. Parts that are simple in shape but have a wide range of dimensions and are difficult to detect.
4. It is difficult to observe, control, and detect the inner cavity and the interior of the box when machining with ordinary lathes.
5. Holes or flat surfaces with strict dimensional requirements.
6. Simple surfaces or shapes that can be machined incidentally in a single clamping.
7. The utilization of CNC milling can effectively improve productivity and reduce the labor intensity of general machining content.
The main machining objects suitable for CNC milling are the following: flat contour parts, variable bevel parts, space surface contour parts, holes, and threads, etc.
